At the heart of Birmingham lies a cultural heart that many outside of the city do not even realise exists. There is the typical plethora of restaurants, bars and clubs that populate most city centres (though Birmingham’s are better, naturally!) but there is also a healthy selection of art galleries and museums. What other cities certainly do not have is anything that compares with the Jewellery Quarter. If you are looking for an altogether more cultural experience when buying jewellery, then Birmingham is the best place in the country to come. And who wouldn’t want something more meaningful? Jewellery itself is steeped in history, culture and tradition – the very fact you are buying it is testament to this! So why not make a day of your jewellery shopping and truly explore the cultural wonders that the UK’s second city has to offer?
The Centre Of Jewellery
Birmingham jewellers know of the rich history the Quarter has. This is why we have our very own Museum of the Jewellery Quarter. The many jewellery shops Birmingham boasts date back well into Victorian times, most notably along Vyse Street. Today we produce as much as 40% of the UK’s entire jewellery as well as being the second largest concentration of jewellery shops in the whole of Europe. With 3000 people living in this 1 square kilometre area, the Quarter is a thriving place that has an incredible amount of heritage and history. Certainly, if you are looking for jewellery, then this is the UK’s hub.
There is a multitude of different types of shops all producing jewellery here, so no matter what you are looking for you will find it! We have a number of shops that specialise in diamonds, producing some of the most perfect stones you will ever see. Given that there are so many shops in such a tight area, the high competition ensures prices are about as good as you are going to get them. Each shop is also fully accredited and will issue you with a certificate to prove the authenticity of the diamond. All you need to do is find that one diamond that takes your breath away.
There are also shops specialising in precious metals such as gold as well as those that deal almost exclusively in gemstones such as emerald, jade, onyx, sapphire, amber and more. The country’s best jewellery specific shops are found here too such as watch sellers, ring specialists, earrings and more. If you are looking to make essential repairs, we can take care of you and your jewellery, particularly when it comes to watches.
Tourist Sites
This special area also has its extra special highlights. The Chamberlain Clock tower stands elegantly at the junction of all of the main Quarter streets. It has stood since 1903 and has been recently restored to its natural state. It is from this clock that you will explore the area and hopefully find the perfect piece of jewellery for you. There is also the Big Peg, the Pen Room Museum, the RBSA Gallery, St Paul’s Gallery and numerous bars.
